Why the Discounted Rate?

The 30% tuition discount acknowledges the unique position of Junior Camp Counselors. They are not only enjoying camp as participants but also contributing to the camp community through leadership opportunities, including a potential role on the Junior Advisory Board. This blend of fun and responsibility offers valuable leadership experience while preserving the joy and excitement of camp.

A Balanced Approach: Work & Play

We understand that Junior Camp Counselors are still kids who want to enjoy camp just as much as everyone else. While they have a leadership role, they will still have plenty of time to participate fully in activities, play games, and enjoy breaks.

  • Freedom to Choose: If there is an activity they’re genuinely excited about, they are welcome to join in as a camper rather than help as a counselor.

  • Balanced Responsibilities: Their role offers more freedom and flexibility, blending leadership opportunities with time to relax, play, and enjoy the full camp experience.

What do kids do in the program?

Develop Management, Operational, and Leadership Skills: Spend the summer learning and practicing essential skills that will serve them well in future leadership roles.

  1. Assist with Campers: Work with younger campers by teaching new skills, leading games, and helping with creative projects under the supervision of staff.

  2. Observe and Learn from Staff: Shadow staff members to learn best practices in teaching, guiding, and managing groups of children.

  3. Help Plan and Execute Large-Scale Events: Participate in organizing significant camp activities, including camp games, closing ceremonies, and special events.

  4. Practice Essential Life Skills: Learn how to give and receive feedback, speak to large groups, and lead multi-part activities and events.

  5. Engage with Families: Greet and direct parents and campers during drop-off and pick-up times, showcasing leadership and communication skills.

  6. Receive Performance Feedback: Junior Camp Counselors will receive weekly feedback on their performance, highlighting their strengths and offering guidance on areas for growth.

Junior Advisory Board

Junior Camp Counselors will also have the opportunity to join the Junior Advisory Board, where they will:

  • Monthly Meetings: Attend monthly meetings to discuss ideas and share feedback about camp activities, projects, and events.

  • Idea Sharing & Planning: Provide valuable input on how to improve the camp experience. Their ideas will be seriously considered, and many will be implemented if feasible.

  • Lead Activities: Take charge of specific camp activities, gaining hands-on experience in planning and leadership.

  • Collaborate with Staff: Work alongside camp staff to learn event planning, leadership strategies, and how to execute successful camp programs.

  • Set Goals and Reflect: Participate in setting goals for camp initiatives and reflect on achievements, learning how to measure success and adapt plans when needed.
